A Tauranga woman is lucky not to be facing serious charges after she ran a red light almost hitting a pedestrian in Bethlehem.
Members of the public called police about midday today after a motorist ran a red light at the pedestrian crossing on State Highway 2 near Moffat Road.
A pedestrian was nearly hit by a car in Bethlehem this afternoon.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says a pedestrian was crossing legally when a female driver failed to give way.
'The driver has been dealt with by way of a fine.” Ian says the pedestrian was lucky not to have been hit by the driver.
'People need to make sure they comply with the traffic signals and be particularly aware at intersections and pedestrian crossings.
'This was an incident that could have well of had a bad ending.”

do the camera's on Hewletts Rd catch the red light runners?? We are amazed at the amount of driver's who run the red (not amber) lights. There is going to be a nasty accident there one day.
Bad accident will happen.

I was crossing this intersection earlier in the year with my 5yr old son, I was teaching him how to cross safely. We waited for the red light then began to cross, a van ran the red light and if I hadn't grabbed my boy by the shirt & pulled him back he would of been sent flying. The guy driving the van didn't even realize what had just happened. Took years off my life!
This pedestrian was my husband

He was one step away from her taking him out. He only just saw, and lost his balance when he had to stop. She was speeding as well
just a matter of time

I saw a very near miss here about 6 months ago. A child was walking their bike across, hidden by car stopped in right hand lane (going to town) car shot through in left hand lane. If the child had of been 2 seconds faster there would have been a nasty out come. This crossing is dangerous because some idiots think the traffic has stopped or slowed for the round about forgetting about the ped crossing.
