Bay designs at The Cup

Tauranga designer Margot Ardern will watch the Melbourne Cup this year knowing a number of her creations are in the crowd.
Margot has designed and made a number of fascinator headpieces for women across New Zealand travelling to the Melbourne Cup.
She has been making the headpieces for three years but this year's Melbourne Cup has been the most popular for Margot.

She made 25 to 30 fascinators this year, the most expensive being $170.
Her main aim is to make women feel confident in the clothes they wear.
'My main motivation is for women to feel great about themselves and if a fascinator gives them that, then that's what I like the best,” says Margot.
Margot is putting her money on Daffodil to win at this year's Melbourne Cup and says fascinators are a dominant feature at the Melbourne Cup.
'They are a very frivolous accessory. It's a very old thing that's been revived. It's part of the vintage theme that's in vogue at the moment,” says Margot.
The Melbourne Cup is scheduled to race at about 5pm.
