Big economic bounce for Bay

The region with the biggest increase in economic activity in the last quarter of 2009, according to the National Bank Regional Trends Survey, is the Bay of Plenty.
In the three months to the end of December 2009, the Bay of Plenty economy grew by 2.5 per cent.

The survey also shows accommodation guest nights in the region rose by 4.6 per cent in the December quarter, compared to the nationwide figure which dropped by 0.1 per cent.
Bay of Plenty consumer confidence was the third highest in New Zealand, which coincided with a lift of 1.7 per cent in the region's employment rate.
The Bay's economic growth towards the end of 2009 is the largest the region has experienced since March 2002, according to the survey.
