Tauranga business will hear from Rugby World Cup 2011 CEO Martin Snedden at the Sebel Trinity Wharf Hotel on Tuesday night.
Martin will talk to representatives from Tauranga's business community about how they can benefit from the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Sebel Trinity Wharf Hotel general manager Gary Dickman says it is not only about how Tauranga businesses can benefit financially, but how they can help the event succeed.
'It's a world event and we have to make sure it's a top event. We are on the peripheral to the main tournament but I think every little town and city will play their part and these business will do what needs to be done.”
Priority One business development manager Richard Kinzett says Martin's speech is also an opportunity to get an update about how the rugby world cup is progressing and to hear directly from organisers.
'Obvious opportunities exist within the tourism sector with the potential for high numbers of visitors to the region during the Rugby World Cup timeframe.”
'We need to ensure we do what we can to attract and retain as many of these visitors to Tauranga and hold them here for as long as we can.”
He says organisers will need more than just rugby and beer to stimulate visitors so they may need to look at shifting some events during the Rugby World Cup to cater for the influx of visitors.
'There will be thousands of tourists in the country over the Rugby World Cup period, from backpackers through to high-end corporate executives and entrepreneurs.”
'It's an opportunity to showcase the wider Bay of Plenty to this audience and maybe engage with some key groups or individuals to help progress initiatives that are key focus areas of our region.”
