Slips along State Highway 25/Thames Coast Road are expected to cause delays to motorists' travels today.

A number of slips are blocking the road and have reduced the Thames Coast Road to one lane in some areas.

Heavy rain in the region yesterday is being touted as the reason for the slips, says the NZ Transport Agency.

The agency is asking people to avoid the area or delay their trip if possible.
