Motorists travelling along State Highway 2, between Te Maunga and Domain Road are being asked to be patient as night time works begin along the highway tonight.

Fulton Hogan HEB Construction Alliance says the works are to allow road surface repairs to be carried out.

While the works are underway, traffic will be controlled by a manual stop/go sign and a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place.

The works are expected to be completed tomorrow night.

Motorists are advised to expect minor delays.
