Students from Bay of Plenty schools are selling their products created through the Young Enterprise Scheme during a special Trade Day from 9am – 5pm today.

The Young Enterprise Scheme is a learning programme offering Year 12 and 13 students the opportunity to create a business and run it for one year.

Their challenge is to go from developing a business plan to successfully launching an original product and generating sales.

Today, most of the Young Enterprise companies from around the region have their products for sale at stalls inside the shopping centre as part of the course's requirements.

Products including the peanut butter and nutella blended spread, created by Tauranga Girls' College group ‘Soar Enterprise', and the #nombar – a kiwifruit snack bar created by Otumoetai College group ‘Royala Enterprise', are on sale.

Other innovative products including coffee mugs painted with children's artwork to raise money for charity are for sale along with t-shirts, soaps and other student-driven creations.

Royala Enterprise managing director Zeenat Azad hopes to sell 100 #nombar snack bars at the Trade Day today.

'And hopefully to win the Best Customer Service Award.”

A number of young companies experiencing local success will attend and compete for the People's Choice and Most Sales awards.

The groups are all competing to represent the region at the Young Enterprise National Awards in Wellington later this year.

To check out what the students have to offer, head down to Bayfair Shopping Centre before 5pm today.
