Bay of Plenty Polytechnic's management are confident there will be minimal disruption to students, despite more strike action planned this week by some staff.
Staff at the polytechnic, who are members of the Tertiary Education Union, have carried out random strike action for the past several months.

BOP Polytechnic management say last week's industrial action resulted in six classes being postponed.
Terry Fulljames, academic director at the polytechnic, says classes, tutorials, and assessments have been rescheduled for students affected by the strike so they can complete all coursework.
'Our academic management team is fully committed to achieving the best outcomes for students and we have procedures in place to ensure there is minimal disruption to classes until the teaching term ends on November 20,” says Terry.
Polytechnic human resources manager Eve Steenson says the polytechnic is in a difficult negotiating position.
'We are affected by government expectations that any salary increases in the public sector must be associated with productivity gains.
This is what we are working through now in our negotiations and look forward to getting back to the negotiation table,” says Eve.

a teacher speaks out

Ms Steenson needs to carefully think through the implications of her utterances. Non-union members have already received a pay rise of up to 8% with no eroding of conditions. The chief executive received a pay rise of 5% plus an undisclosed bonus. Is Ms Steenson saying in effect that union members are not as productive as non union members or management. If so she needs to provide substantiation. In my own case I am a particularly effective teacher as evidenced by student evaluations and achievements. To suggest otherwise is insulting and is also bringing members of staff into disrepute, an action that is in violation of the Polytechnic "code of conduct"
