Heavy rain overnight has damaged recent works to State Highway 2 at Domain Road with repairs expected to cause delays today.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says heavy rain overnight has damaged parts of the new Tauranga Eastern Link project.

Repair work is currently underway and motorists are asked to drive with caution and to expect delays.

The MetService reports 41mm of rainfall fell at Tauranga Airport overnight.
