Road repairs on State Highway 2 over the Chapel Street viaduct in Tauranga is expected to cause traffic delays this weekend.
The NZ Transport Agency says contractors will close one lane at the western end of the Chapel Street viaduct to traffic heading towards Mount Maunganui.
Road works will begin around Chapel Street around 1pm.
This is to allow maintenance work to be carried out, says Bay of Plenty state highways manager Brett Gliddon.
'The work will require a short section of the viaduct to be reduced to one lane, the lanes into the City from Mount Maunganui will not be affected.”
He says the works are weather dependent, and are planned to take place this afternoon from 1pm.
'Wet weather may delay the works to Sunday from 1pm. Signage will guide traffic through the work area and a temporary speed restriction will be in place for the safety of workers and drivers throughout this work.”
Brett the work has been specifically scheduled for the weekend to minimise the impact on drivers.
'These works are weather dependent and will be delayed to the next fine weekend if the weather is bad.
'We know this area of the highway can be quite busy, so we will be monitoring traffic movements to ensure delays for drivers are minimised.”
