Diesel spill on Kaimais

Motorists travelling over the Kaimais are warned there is a diesel spill starting near Soldiers Road and extending over the top and down towards Matamata.

Tauranga Police are advising drivers to take extreme care.

The road surface is extremely slippery and efforts are being made to clean it up. In the meantime Police urge users of the road to slow down and take extreme care.

Tauranga police say a number of vehicles have left the road because of the slippery surface. There is also fog on the top.

I hit a patch of diesel a few months ago when riding with a group on bikes. Went sideways for a while at speed on a straight road. We all got a scare. Lucky it wasn't on a corner. Hope they have put up warning signs for this spill.

Wonder what caused it.
