UPDATED 4PM: A section of State Highway 2 is open again after being closed to allow for the removal a trailer which detached from a truck earlier today.
The trailer had rolled down a ditched after detaching near Kiwi 360 about 10am, blocking SH2 at Paengaroa between Young Rd and Pah Rd for a few hours.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the trailer has been removed and the road is now open.
There were no reports of injuries or other vehicles being involved in the incident.
Police are still investigating how the trailer detached from the truck towing it, says Ian.

There is something seriously wrong either with the mechanical integrity of vehicles or negligence of drivers. This is the second one in this area. Sadly, some day an innocent person will be killed by a 'detached' trailer.

Two different companies, two different types of tow eyes', that's the part where the trailer drawbar is attached to the ring feeder at the back of the truck. Two different reasons obviously. They can fail for various reasons & that is one reason why the trucking industry is policed by CVIU as well as 6 monthly COF'S. I wonder if car drivers & their trailers should have roadside inspections like truck drivers have to constantly tolerate while trying to make a living.
