Tauranga shows it's got talent

The city's most talented will spend the next few weeks waiting to hear if they have made it through to the next round of New Zealand's Got Talent.

Tauranga auditions in the search for the country's top singers, musicians, dancers and comedians took place at Otumoetai College's Performing Arts Centre last night.

A total of 122 people, some travelling from across the country, lined up ready to show the judges their talent.

Tauranga's Urban Dance junior development crew Urban Impact were among those auditioning.

Adorned in school-girl uniforms, the five dancers aged between nine and 12-years-old performed their 'fierce but cute” hip-hop routine to judges.

Urban Dance founder and choreographer Sarah Martin says she wanted to emphasise the group's girly side by using ‘wacking', breaking, ‘reggaeton' and ‘voguing' hip-hop movements.

'We just wanted to show that they can have a lot of fun, but that they've got attitude and that they can be fierce but they can also be cute.”

The New Zealand's Got Talent team have been touring the country for talented Kiwis since April this year and will finish their search in Auckland on June 9.

Around 300 people auditioned for the reality talent show in Tauranga last year including the city's own top talent - 12-year-old Fletcher Oxford. Fletcher placed fifth in the 2012 competition.
