The global financial crisis of 2008 is the opening act for decades of financial instability unless the world starts to look at alternatives, says one of the world's leading financial commentators.
Nicole Foss believes the world's financial contraction is about to resume and will speak about the links between finance, world energy supplies and environmental issues in Tauranga this week.
Nicole Foss will discuss global finance at Baycourt on Wednesday.
The financial commentator is coming to Baycourt on Wednesday night in her only North Island appearance outside of Auckland and Wellington.
Nicole, the co-author of the website automaticearth.com, will explore how finance acts as a global operating system between people and natural resources.
'History teaches us that the bursting of a bubble amounts to crashing the operating system, leading into a period of economic depression.”
Nicole says Europe is leading the way, with Cyprus the most recent major financial accident. Many other countries are set to follow Europe into austerity and the financial disaster that ensures.
During the discussion Nicole will look at where different countries, including the USA, China and New Zealand, find themselves in terms of financial vulnerability and the likely timings of impact. She will point out relevant connections in the highly integrated global financial system, and set the current crisis in the context of past economic expansions and contractions.
Nicole will explain her views on how to rebuild the financial system and restore trust.
No booking is necessary for the discussion at Baycourt on Wednesday, May 29. It starts at 7.15pm and is entry by suggested donation of $5-$10.
