Crash cuts power in Te Puna

An early morning crash on State Highway 2 near Te Puna on Friday cut power to 1300 homes and businesses in the area.
Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh says the outage occurred at about 5.30am.
Power was restored to around 1250 consumers by 6.45am.

"Supply to the remaining affected customers is due back by noon" says Phil.
Sarah Adamson was travelling from Katikati to Tauranga when she saw the crash scene, which occurred just before the 80km speed sign heading into Te Puna from Katikati.
She believes the 4WD vehicle collided with a power pole and crashed into a nearby fence.

Power lines were still covering the vehicle and debris from the crash was strewn across a 20 metre area, says Sarah.
She says there was heavy traffic build up for Katikati bound motorists for a brief period.
Police could not be contacted to explain the circumstances of the crash or if anyone was injured.
