The father of Mount Maunganui speedway victim Samantha Mouat has spoken of his loss for the first time.
The fifteen year old died after crashing her mini-stock at the Easter Stampede and Demolition Derby in Kaikohe over the weekend.
Samantha's father, Mike Mouat, told SunLive he was still struggling with the reality that his daughter was dead.
Mike lives in Perth in Western Australia but was back in New Zealand for an extended holiday.

He was at the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow in the South Island when he was phoned and told about his daughter's death.
'She died doing something she loved,” says Mike.
He says Samantha was well liked by everyone, was very easy going and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Mike wants the opportunity to personally inspect the vehicle his daughter was driving when she crashed.
'I want to find out exactly what happened. There's a lot of speculation and some of it sounds very strange.”
He says Samantha's body is now back in Tauranga. The Mouat family will be meeting today to arrange the funeral, which is expected to take place at Baypark sometime this week.
