Mount girl dies in Kaikohe

A 15 year old Mount Maunganui girl died in a stockcar crash in Kaikohe on Saturday afternoon.
Samantha Mouat was racing a ministock car at Kaikohe Speedway's Easter Stampede and Demolition Derby when her car slammed into a wall just after 4pm.

It is understood Samantha's family were watching her race - apart from her father, who was on holiday.
Ministock cars are built to resemble stock cars, but they are a non-contact class. It was Samantha's first season racing. Her car was 66M.
The crash appeared to be caused by driver error, says Kaikohe speedway secretary Debbie Beadle.
Samantha was dead when ambulance officers reached the scene. Members of the Whangarei police serious crash unit attended but, because Samantha died on a private track, the Department of Labour is leading the investigation into her death.
The Kaikohe Speedway is operated by the Circle Track Racing Association.
