Business people wearing lycra is expected to be a regular sight on the way to and from work for the next two weeks as the Sustainable Business Network No Pollute Commute Corporate Challenge gets underway.
The challenge, which starts Monday, March 8, and runs until Friday, March 19 is about encouraging Tauranga businesses to reassess their transport methods, says Sustainable Business Network regional manager Jo Wills.
Export New Zealand Bay of Plenty executive officer Angela Wallace carpools with Sustainable Business Network regional manager Jo Wills (front), proving that carpooling is not just restricted to employees in the same company.
'It's a way to highlight efficiencies businesses can gain through more sustainable transport practices,” says Jo.
'Any business that wants to work on reducing their travel and making it more efficient can enter.”
It is a competition and Jo says the winning business will be one which reduces its commuting mileage the most by the end of the two weeks and has introduced the best long-term systems to maintain sustainable transport for staff and the business.
The winning business will have its annual vehicle related carbon emissions off-set by trees that will be planted in the Kopurererua Valley. Other spot prizes will also be handed out.
