Traffic delays of up to half an hour were caused on State Highway 2 this morning following a nose to tail crash between two trucks.
The non-injury crash occurred between Te Karaka Drive and Barrett Road in Whakamarama.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says both vehicles were moved off the highway after the crash.
He says the crash did stall traffic on the highway but normal traffic flows should be restored within the next half hour.
'I've noticed this week the traffic volumes start to ramp up with all the kids now back at school,” says Ian.
Both vehicles appear to be driveable, says Ian.

Turn some of your revenue into a 4 lane highway from Auckland to Tauranga instead of overseas trips and new cars for your tax collecting and we would have less accidents. SH2 is a disgusting highway for the volume of traffic it carries. Start with a four lane bridge across the Wairoa and then the forgotten bypass through Katikati township for a beginner

No, no you've got it all wrong they want to spend nothing on this road. Their preferred option is to route all Auckland traffic over the Kaimais. If mr Campion was really clever, he'd have arranged to have the trucks removed from the road before the crash! Yes, one wonders why they need the $50,00 vans for speed cameras when they used to use the el cheapo $22000 Mitsubishis. They're only a mobile reading environment for the non-Police that use them. Then they complain about a lack of budget. The UK cop programs are great because they drive ordinary cars like the rest of us. But not for our lot with their great revenue stream.
