Work to renew and strengthen the seawall at Ōmokoroa’s Beach Grove Reserve is set to begin next week.
Some temporary closures are expected while construction is underway.
A Western Bay of Plenty District Council statement said the project is due to start on October 27 and will take about eight to 10 weeks to complete, depending on weather and tidal conditions.
As part of the work, a section of the shared path between Beach Grove and Cooney Reserve will be closed for three to four weeks because it is too narrow to remain safely open alongside construction activity.
A signed detour will direct pedestrians and cyclists via Cooney Reserve and Ōmokoroa Rd.
The boat ramp will remain open throughout the project, but grassed reserve areas on either side will be temporarily closed so materials and equipment can be stored and moved safely.
Parking along this section of Beach Grove will also be unavailable.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council reserves and facilities manager Janine Field said the seawall had gradually been damaged by high tides and wave action.
“High tides and waves have gradually worn away at the seawall, so it’s important we strengthen it to protect the reserve and pathway.
“People will see trucks, machinery and large rocks moving through the reserve while the work is underway, so please take care and follow the signs.”
Field said the work would help keep the area safe and accessible for future users.
Project updates are available at the council’s community engagement website.
