A search and rescue operation for a missing kayaker continues at Waihī Beach this morning.

Police were called around 5.40pm yesterday after reports that a man entered the water in a kayak earlier that day and had not been seen since.

Sergeant Will Hamilton said this morning the search operation ran through the evening, including help from the Police Eagle helicopter.

“Search and Rescue team are again in the area today and will continue the search for both the man and the kayak,” Hamilton said.

The kayak is described to be blue with black and white mottled (camo) colour, and is a single seated sit-on-top vessel.
