Two children suffered minor injuries when the mini-bus they were in and a car crashed in the Karangahake Gorge this morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi around 9.05am at the Waihi entrance to the gorge.
Emergency services were called to a crash involving a school mini-bus and car in the Karangahake Gorge near Waihi.
Two children suffered minor injuries in the crash as did one of the drivers involved.
'Traffic has been reduced down to one lane and drivers unable to avoid travelling through the gorge should expect delays,” says Inspector Marcus Lynam.
Police are urging motorists to drive to the conditions following another crash on State Highway 3 in Ohaupo Road near the intersection with Raynes Rd shortly before 7am.
'In this crash firefighters had to free the driver of one car that had flipped and ended up on its roof following a two car collision.
'We're still working to establish what caused the crash but conditions were wet at the time. The driver was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.”
Marcus says the causes of both crashes are yet to be determined however in both incidents wet weather conditions had been a factor.
'There's been a fair bit of rain across the region over the past two days and that has been the first to Waikato for a few weeks which makes for slippery, treacherous conditions at a time where drivers may have become complacent because of the earlier excellent driving conditions.
'What we're asking is that as the conditions change you change your speed, and be aware that with a mid-week holiday traffic volumes are likely to be high so allow plenty of time to get to your destination.”
