Police issue speed warning

The ice has melted, the rain has started and Tauranga drivers are again warned to drive with extreme care.

'It's not quite as bad as ice, at least it is very obvious the road surface is wet,” says Strategic Traffic Unit senior sergeant Ian Campion.
Drivers on the Kaimai Ranges and Pyes Pa Road to Rotorua are advised to take extreme care.
'With the icy conditions we've had, there will still be ice in some areas and grit on the road surface. Drivers need to take extreme care. The roads will be slippery,” says Ian.
He advises a 20kmh drop in highway speeds to 80kmh, and for drivers to extend following distances to four seconds from the vehicle in front.
'Make sure the headlights are on, see and be seen, and heed advisory speeds on corners,” says Ian.
'Drive to the conditions.”
