An Oropi school bus driver had a lucky escape when the bus skidded on ice on Oropi Gorge Road today.

No school pupils were on the bus during the 9.20am accident.
The accident happened at the Pyes Pa end of the gorge road on tar seal where the road winds down the hill from SH36.
The bus hit ice, went into gravel on the left, then slid to the right, hopping the ditch to remain poised on the road verge.
The Highway Patrol also advised caution today on State Highway 36 and on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Ranges.
