Delays ahead at Hewletts Rd

Motorists traveling to Tauranga from Mount Maunganui could experience delays next week as lanes on Hewletts Road are closed. Lanes are being closed to increase space for those working on the Harbour Link Project. The three Tauranga-bound lanes between Totara Street and Tasman Quay will be reduced to two lanes.

Lanes along Hewletts Road, between Totara Street and Tasman Quay, will be reduced from Monday, June 15.

After Tasman Quay they will be reduced to just one lane. The New Zealand Transport Agency says these changes may result in vehicles being queued along Hewletts Road.?The lane closures will be in place for several months and a temporary road restriction of 50km/h will be in place in the area. New Zealand Transport Agency's Kevin Reid says the lane changes were needed to create a safe environment for those working on the Harbour Link Project. 'These lane alterations are likely to be in place for up to five months, and initial delays are possible as motorists get used to the new land configuration,” says Kevin. He says making the land changes is weather dependent. If it's wet the work will be completed on the next suitable day.
