Delays for night travel

Street works in Hewletts Road and Turret Roads start tomorrow night and are expected to create some minor delays.

The resurfacing works on State Highway 2 and SH2A and is part of the New Zealand Transport Agency's state highway maintenance programme for the Mount Maunganui and Tauranga area.

Acting Bay of Plenty state highways manager, Nigel D'Ath, says resurfacing works will start in Hewletts Road on Sunday, November 11, from west of Maru Street to the Hewletts Road overbridge.

Speed restrictions will be in place during the work, which is expected to finish at this section of the road on Tuesday night.

Work in Hewletts Road will resume the following Sunday November 18, when resurfacing works will take place from Aerodrome Road to the end of the Hewletts Road overbridge.

Detours will be in place diverting traffic along Maunganui Road and Hewletts Road - beneath the overbridge. The second stage is expected to finish on Thursday night, November 22.

In Tauranga, resurfacing works will start Tuesday night November 13, south of the Hairini Bridge to the Maungatapu Roundabout, on the uphill lane.

A single lane will be open during the work with speed restrictions in place says Mr D'Ath. This work is expected to be completed by Thursday November 15.

The works will all start from 7pm and finish by 6am on the days of operation, during the daytime traffic will revert back to normal operation.

Nigel says drivers should adhere to the posted speed restrictions when travelling through the work sites for the safety of workers.

The work is weather dependant, and if it is wet the closures will be moved to the next available fine day.
