Police have confirmed that one person has died following a crash in the Waikato on Sunday morning.

"The crash occurred on Waiti Road, Tahuna, Matamata-Piako just before 2am," says a police spokesperson.

The scene is now clear and the road open.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
