Large traffic delays are being reported on State Highway 2 between Omokoroa and Whakamarama.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says two vehicles have crashed on SH2, near Youngson Road.

"Police are at the scene and traffic is backed up in the northbound lane.

"I am unsure about injuries, but it looks pretty serious."

A SunLive reader has emailed in to say her husband is stuck on SH2 and says "the crash is causing major traffic delays".

People are advised to expect delays while emergency services deal with the scene.

A police spokesperson says police were advised of a crash at the intersection of Youngson Road and SH 2 at 4.10pm.

"Two cars were involved.

"There were no injuries, however the crash was partially blocking the road.

"Towing is being arranged for the two cars."
