One person is in a critical condition following a motorcycle crash in eastern Bay of Plenty on Sunday.

Police responded to a motorcycle crash that blocked State Highway 2 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne.

The crash was reported shortly after 4.30pm south of Waioeka Gorge, near the intersection with Rakauroa Road.

One person is in a critical condition.

State Highway 2 was blocked for some time and motorists were advised to avoid the area, with traffic management arranged.

The Serious Crash Unit was also notified.
