Emergency services are responding to a truck and trailer crash on State Highway 30.

"A freight truck with a trailer containing wood chips has rolled on SH 30 near Rotoma and is currently blocking the road," says a police spokesperson.

The crash is west of the SH34 - Kawerau - intersection on SH30.

Police say the driver of the vehicle is not reported to have any serious injuries but it is understood the driver has been taken to Whakatane by ambulance.

Traffic management is being put in place at the scene.

Traffic in the area is congested, and motorists are advised to avoid the area or delay travel until the truck can be righted and towed.

"Follow directions of emergency services on scene and allow extra time for your travel," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.
