Update, 1145am: An earlier serious crash on SH2 between Otamarakau Valley Rd and Old Coach Rd in the Otamarakau area has now been cleared. SH2 is open in both directions through this area.

Sadly, one person has died on Wednesday following the crash which involved a truck on SH2.

Earlier, 10.13am:  One person has died on Wednesday morning following a vehicle crash near Pukehina.

Police can advise one person has died following a two-vehicle crash involving a truck on State Highway 2, near Waitahanui Lane.

"Police responded to the crash around 5am," says a police spokesperson.

"Two further people were transported to Tauranga Hospital in a serious and moderate condition."

The Serious Crash Unit are conducting a scene examination and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place on Ohinepanea Road and Old Coach Road.
