One person has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Mount Maunganui.

Emergency services were called to reportes of a pedestrian being hit by a car on Valley Road, between Tay and Clyde streets, around 8am.

"The person was reported to have minor injuries and was taken to hospital to be checked,” says a police spokesperson.

Police say the road was closed while emergency services were at the scene.

“The road was opened again once the ambulance left the site of the accident."

A SunLive reader, who emailed in about the crash, says "a student had been hit by a car".
