SH2 road works update

Contractors are working to get the works done as soon as they possibly can.

Several sections of State Highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty are being affected by road works.

Installation of a signalised crossing on SH2 near Bethlehem is currently being done at night.

Contractors are working from 7pm to 5pm each night.

Shoulder closures and stop/go traffic management is in place during this time.

NZTA says a 30km/h speed limit is also in place.

On the other side of the city, works on SH2 due to the Baypark to Bayfair project means traffic for Girven Road and Matapihi must use SH29A exit and follow signs for detour.

“Traffic for Mount Maunganui and Tauranga continue straight on SH2,” says a post on the roading agency’s website.

Meanwhile, there is a road closure in place on SH2 near Edgecumbe.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says the closure, from Gow Road to Puriri Crescent, is to allow contractors to do pavement repairs in the area.

Detours are as follows: HPMV vehicles SH2 (White Pine Bush Road) to SH30 (Te Teko) to SH34 (Military Road) to SH2 (Matata Road), vice versa. All other vehicles: SH2 (Awakeri Road, Bridge Street) left to Main Street, right to Otakiri Road, right to SH34 (Awaiti S Road) to SH2 (Matata Road), vice versa.

The closure is from 7.30am to 4.30pm each day until November 25.
