UPDATE 8.25AM: Te Puna Station Road is completely blocked this morning.

A large slip has come down over night, blocking both lanes of the road.

A Western Bay of Plenty District Council spokepserson says crews are on the way to clear the slip and get the road open as soon as possible.

"This is a separate slip to the one over the weekend."

An update will be provided once more information is available.

EARLIER:

Te Puna residents are reporting a slip on Te Puna Station Road this morning.

A post in the Te Puna Community Group Facebook page shows the slip is blocking both lanes of the road.

Concerns had been raised earlier this week by residents and motorists after a slip had come down on one lane after the weekend's rain.

One SunLive reader said it was a 'continual public safety issue”.

'It's slipping all the time onto that road. And the river is right there,” says a SunLive reader.

The section of road where the slips usually occur runs alongside the Wairoa River.

A Western Bay of Plenty District Council spokesperson says they are continuing to monitor prone slip areas along Te Puna Station Road.

'Council is currently considering plans to upgrade and redevelop Te Puna Station Road, as part of the wider work programme for the Western Bay of Plenty District.

'To ensure continued public safety, Council along with their contractor, will continue to monitor prone slip areas along Te Puna Station Road, and during poor weather periods, an inspector will be observing and assessing, daily.”

SunLive has contacted council this morning in regards to the latest development and will provide an update when we can.

Several days ago Sunlive article expressed local concern about slips in this area. So no surprise I guess.

Leave it there please

Please leave the slip in place......it'll stop the selfish drivers who turn off the SH2 at Te Puna BP and use the back roads to avoid the traffic jam on the SH2.......the jams being caused by those very people. There was talk about closing off this road but that went quiet.

Improved Traffic flow

Instantly SH2 traffic flow improved with this road closed. Leave it closed please.

Slip would improve SH2

The slip would of improved the traffic flow on SH2 by eliminating all the Rat Runners trying to beat the traffic and then slowing it at the Station Rd intersection.
