Members of the public out walking on June 20, helped give fire fighters the early warning they needed to stop the spread of fire at a Mount Maunganui hair salon.

The fire at the hair salon on Girven Road was reported at about 6.30pm and was burning from the building's exterior.
Fire fighters suspect the fire started from an electrical fault in an air conditioning unit attached to the building's exterior.
They say the fire was burning inside the salon's walls but the early warning they were given allowed them to stop the fire before it spread inside.
The salon sustained minimal damage to its cladding and outdoor air conditioning ducting.
