China buys more BOP kiwifruit

Mount Maunganui's Zespri International predicts massive growth in exports to China and Hong Kong in the next decade.

The company forecasts its kiwifruit sales to China and Hong Kong will rise to 20 per cent in the next decade; up from its current six per cent of Zespri's sales.
The announcement comes after Zespri was awarded Best Logistics Strategy for the Chinese market from the New Zealand China Trade Association.
The company's sales in the 2008/2009 year were 28 per cent up on the 2007/2008 year and its distribution network across China is expanding.
Zespri says coordinating timely delivery of its kiwifruit to China is particularly important for the beginning of its season.
