Today's harbour link opening ceremony will also be the time and place where the New Zealand Transport Agency board passes on its recommendation concerning the tolling of the earstern arterial to transport minister Stephen Joyce.
Stephen will be unveiling the plaque at the ceremony. His part in obtaining the tolling option for the eastern arterial - the Te Puke by pass, will be to obtain cabinet approval for the Order in Council that will make the recommendation to the governor general.
Harry Wilson.
The NZTA board is expected to push for the toll road. The NZTA received 3500 public submissions on the option, 93 per cent of them approving tolls as the way to guarantee the highway's immediate construction.
Regional NZTA director Harry Wilson says the overwhelming result prompted the agency to conduct its own background surveys which were also 80 per cent in favour of tolls.
Ceremonials begin at dawn tomorrow with karakia by local Tohunga. The dawn ceremony is expected to include the blessing of the carved pouwhenua set about the ceremonial Takitimu anchor stone.
