UPDATED 5.40pm: Police are responding to an incident on Chapel Street, involving a vehicle in the water.

The street is closed to allow emergency services to attend, says a police spokesperson.

"Traffic management is being put in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible."

At this stage there is no information regarding the number of people involved or any injuries, says the spokseperson.

An update will be provided as soon as more information is available, they say.

Earlier, 5.15pm There has been a serious crash at Chapel Street.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternative routes.

Extensive delays may be experienced.

Emergency services are attending the scene.

It is unknown at this stage if anyone has been injured.

Why is there no barrier there? Just like Oropi rd, a worn out wooden barrier that would do nothing. Sort it out before someone dies.
