Police can now release the name of the driver who died following a crash on SH 1, Lichfield, north of Tokoroa on Saturday.

"She was Carol McKenzie, aged 43, of Putaruru," says a Police spokesperson.

Emergency services were alerted to the two vehicle crash near Ngutuwera Stream Bridge at around 2pm on Saturday.

One person died at the scene and a second person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Police would like to extend their sympathies to their family and friends."

Enquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
