Crash causing delays near Barkes Corner

UPDATE 10:10am: Both lanes on State Highway 29, near Barkes Corner, are now open following a crash this morning.

Police say they were alerted to a crash possibly involving five vehicles at about 9am this morning, including a truck that jack-knifed.

'A truck and about four cars are involved,” says a Police spokesperson.

'However it appears that the truck has jack-knifed.”

Police state that nobody appears have been injured in the crash and that a tow was called to the scene.

Tauranga City Council says that the vehicles involved in the crash have now been cleared but that motorists should still take care when passing through the area.

'Some emergency services still on scene,” says a Council spokesperson.

'Maintain caution passing scene.”

EARLIER: Reports are coming in of a crash on State Highway 29, near Barkes Corner.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a truck and car have crashed on the highway between the SH29 roundabout and the Oropi Road roundabout.

"One lane looks to be blocked.

"Traffic can still move around it, but people should expect delays."

People are advised to use an alternative route if possible.

There appears to be a JINX on that stretch of road gosh it was only a month or two ago another one there,for a truck to jackknife someone must have stopped quickly or something,it could have been worse,anyway my pennies worth for what its worth,thank Sunlive 10-4 out. phew.
