Just over two hours later a vehicle crashed on State Highway 2 at the Chapel St on-ramp.
Police say they were notified of the crash at the Chapel St on-ramp at around 2.20am.
'A ute is reported to have overturned,” says a Police spokesperson. 'There are no apparent injuries.”
NZTA closed the road, as the on-ramp was blocked, causing traffic delays for motorists travelling at that time. The road reopened at around 4.30am.
