Mass traffic delays are being reported on State Highway 2, between Katikati and Omokoroa.

While traffic delays are nothing new on the highway, large than normal delays are being reported on SH2, near Aongatete.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists travelling on State Highway 2 between Katikati and Tauranga to delay their travel, where possible, or to expect delays as PowerCo is currently undertaking work at Aongatete.

"Motorists are currently experiencing significant delays," says a spokesperson for the roading agency.

"The work is expected to be finished within the next hour and traffic should return to normal for the afternoon.

"Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience."
