Police appeal after pedestrian hit by car

UPDATE 12:30PM: Police are asking the public for help in locating a driver who left the scene of a traffic incident in Kawerau this morning in which a person was seriously injured.

One person has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a car on River Road this morning.

A police spokesperson states that the car left the scene immediately following the incident, which was reported to Police at 10.50am.

'Police are seeking to identify and locate the driver of the car and would like to hear from any witnesses who have not yet spoken to us,” says a police spokesperson.

'We are also keen to obtain any CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist our enquiries.

'If you can help, please get in touch via 105 and quote event number P047996952.”

Police are advising that River Road is closed between Ward Street and Fraser Street while a scene examination is carried out.

'Motorists are asked to take alternative routes.”

EARLIER 11.21AM: One person is in serious condition following a crash in the Bay of Plenty.

A police spokesperson says a person was struck by a car on River Road in Kawerau.

"The incident was reported to police at around 10.50am.

"The road has been closed while emergency services work at the scene."

Reports are coming in of a serious crash in the Bay of Plenty.

A caller on the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says emergency services are the the scene of what appears to be a serious crash on River Road, in Kawerau.

"It looks pretty bad."
