UPDATE: Part of State Highway 2 has now reopened following a fallen tree causing a blockage earlier today.
The road was closed between Station Rd and Rewatu Rd, south of SH30 Awakeri.
Waka Kotahi NZTA now confirm the road has reopened.
EARLIER 2:43: State Highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty is closed this afternoon due to a fallen tree.
A police spokesperson says State Highway 2/White Pine Bush Road between Taneatua and Awakeri is currently closed due a tree that has fallen on a powerline.
"The road could be blocked for some time while the it is cleared.
"Diversions are in place but motorists are asked avoid travel in the area if possible or to expect delays."
