Te Puna Quarry Park is closed following a fatal crash this week.

Emergency services were called to the park just after 12.0pm on Wednesday, following reports of a digger falling down a mountain.

A police spokesperson says a man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

'Sadly he passed away a short time later,” police confirmed in a statement last night.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and WorkSafe has been notified.

A Worksafe spokesperson says 'we are currently making initial queries and this will determine our next steps”.

In a post on Facebook, Te Pune Quarry Park says the park will remain closed until further notice.

'We will update the Facebook page when it is reopened.”
