UPDATE 5PM: State Highway 25A Kopu-Hikuai Road is now clear following a crash involving a truck and three vehicles.

Two people suffered moderate injuries and two others sustained serious injuries, according to a statement from police.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash around 2.10pm.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, say police.

EARLIER 3.02PM: Multiple injuries are being reported in a serious crash in the Thames-Coromandel area.

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on SH25A Kopu-Hikuai Road in Thames-Coromandel District.

"Police were notified of the multiple car crash at about 2.10pm," says a police spokesperson.

"Early indications are that a truck has collided with multiple vehicles and several people are moderately injured.

"The road is closed, and motorists are asked to avoid the area."

EARLIER:

Motorists are being advised to avoid a section of State Highway 25A, in the Thames-Coromandel area.

A serious crash has been reported to emergency services and a section of SH25A (Kopu-Hikuai Rd) is now closed between SH26 and SH25, reports the NZTA.

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route."

People are being advised to following the directions of emergency services at the scene.
