Multiple crashes reported on SH36

Extreme caution required on State Highway 36 this morning.

A SunLive reader reports that he passed three car accidents this morning, between Pyes Pa and Rotorua.

'There is a patch of black ice that's about nine to 10km long,” reports the reader.

'Air temperature outside recorded by my car is four degrees.

'There was one crash near the TECT All Terrain Park that I passed about 7am, another crash in the gorge, and another crash in the other gorge on the other side of TECT Park.

'People need to take extreme care driving this morning between Tauranga and Rotorua through Pyes Pa.

"I was travelling from Tauranga to Rotorua for a meeting which I'm now late for, as we had to drive slowly.”

A police spokesperson says towing has been arranged for the vehicles involved in the crash.

"The call came in at 7am, and towing has been arranged, no injuries and not blocking."
