Mount Maunganui surfer Jack Hinton has maintained his spot at the top of the Under 18 Boys Division leaderboard with a second-placed finish at Taranaki this weekend.

Hinton's second place finish means he remains in the series lead ahead of the final event at Piha on May 15-16.

Finn Vette of Gisborne took his third win of the season ahead of Hinton. His fast-paced surfing netting him a 15.6 point heat total after surfing through five heats of the Open Men's and Junior Divisions during the day.

Waihi Beach's Levi Stewart finished the final of the Open Men's division final in fourth place to keep him in the running going into the final round. Ricardo Christie took the win with Billy Stairmand and Daniel Farr in second and third respectively.

'I think the winning formula is being grateful for being here and enjoying it,” says winner Christie.

'Every heat I had in this event was challenging, it was cool, I got into the routine as if I was back on the CT (Championship Tour) and made sure I was having fun and enjoying it.”

Ava Henderson of Christchurch won the Open Women's event, with Mount surfer Anna Brock placing fourth in the final.

'Super stoked to win,” says Henderson. 'I usually can't pull it together in pumping waves so it was good to surf out there and get a win and know that I can do some good turns to get those scores.

'I went into the final feeling super relaxed and was going with it, if there was a section just hit it as hard as possible and hope for the best.”
