Greerton icon nears end

Greerton will mark the end of an era when Tony Fahy pours his last pint later this month.

Fahys Motor Inn owner Tony Fahy will pour his final pint on June 28 after 20 years.

The long-time Tauranga businessman and owner of Greerton's Fahy Motor Inn is retiring and the new owners will be the Tauranga RSA.
It's 20 years since Tony took over the business, which is now called Fahys Motor Inn. He has been involved in the hospitality trade in Tauranga for more than 40 years.
Tony closes the doors for the last time at Fahys Motor Inn at lunchtime on June 28 and begins his retirement. The RSA officially takes over on July 1.
Tony doesn't know what he will do when he sells the motor inn that bears his name at the end of this month.
'It's more a case of what I won't be doing. I won't be going to work and that will be the biggest change for me.”
'I've been working all my life and for a lot of that time I've been working seven days a week for 12 to 15 hour days. I guess I'll still wake up at the same time,” says Tony.
