What‘s on Today: Women’s surfing

A surfing event striving to connect Bay of Plenty women is set to take place in Mount Maunganui.

The Aotearoa Women's Surfing Association is today launching their Regional Surf Network, an initiative to link-up local, regional and national surf communities.

The network has been formed to connect already established wāhine led surfing initiatives around Aotearoa by having a central platform for regions to share their news and events.

The association are calling on BOP female surfer's turn up to Tay Street Reserve tomorrow to celebrate the launch and surf with 'like-minded wāhine.”

"This is a chance for ocean women and girls to connect with each other, tautoko the next generation of salty sea sisters and rewrite the narrative of women's surfing in Aotearoa at all skill levels,” says a written statement.

"It doesn't matter if you are just getting started or been surfing forever, bring your board for a wave and a chat."

The association's main aim is to increase participation for women and girls, encourage safe and fun spaces to enjoy the surf and to support initiatives that are already in place.

The event is taking place on the beach at Tay St Reserve from 9-11am on Saturday, December 5.
